VISSW 2009: Visual interfaces to the Social and the Semantic Webworkshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from different fields, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Information Visualization, Semantic Web, and Personal Information Management, to discuss latest research results and challenges in desAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License
Social Information Foraging and SensemakingThe time is ripe for a new paradigm of research on social
information foraging and sensemaking to be coupled with
the development of theoretically motivated systems. In
contrast to the bulk of CSCW (Computer Supported
Cooperative Work) there is an opportunity now to develop
predictive, quantitative, formal models of social
information foraging and sensemaking.Peter Pirolli
Augmenting Social Cognition: From Social Foraging to Social Sensemaking Google Tech Talks February 15, 2007 ABSTRACT The emergence of Social Web has resulted in a spectrum of collaborative information environments. These social software span from systems with lightweight collaboration that identify faddishness of information (digg.com) to heavyweight collaboration systems that produce encyclopedia content (Wikipedia). We are interested in understanding the emerging behavior in social software, particularly how they enable social search, foraging and sensemaking.
We summarized initial results from PARC's Augmented Social Cognition research project, where we studied both Wikipedia and del.icio.us to characterize their evolution.

Exploring the Cognitive Consequences of Social SearchPaper zum Vortrag
To what extent can social interactions augment people’s
natural search experiences? What factors influence the
decision to turn to a friend for help? Our paper presents
the preliminary results of a social sensemaking task
that begin to address such questions by examining the
cognitive consequences of social search.Brynn M. Evans
Fragen sucht.
